We observed Internet Explorer install six different malware programs without permission after loading one web page on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 system. We did not download a file: IE did this on its own. The built-in pop-up blocker did not prevent the attack. Neither did our hardware firewall.
The attack would have failed had we been running in a limited account instead of as a computer administrator. We recommend customers either switch to another web browser or not run IE on Windows as administrator to prevent such attacks.
We've been using OS X 10.3 for about six months now. It's one of our most stable systems (the other is Fedora Linux). We think most of our customers would be better off with an Apple Macintosh. We also know that if all of our customers switched, we would lose about 25% of our annual revenue.
Forget we even said that: continue to use Windows and send us checks.
Seriously, there are issues switching to Macs. But most customers would be better off running them. Please contact us before buying a new computer to see if a Mac is more cost effective for you.
